Gratwanderung® ridge walk

This walk of around two hours through the Roter Hang is led by Nierstein’s culture and wine ambassadors and offers wonderful views of the Rhine. Along the way, learn about the Roter Hang’s unusual geology, landscape, plants, viticulture and seasonal vineyard work. You can even hold 290-million-year-old rock and shark teeth from the time when Rheinhessen lay beneath the sea.

To finish, taste three wines from the Roter Hang, introduced by one of its winegrowers, and discover the character of this unique vineyard landscape in your glass.

The ridge walk is a joint project by the Kultur- und Weinbotschafter Rheinhessen (KWB) and the association Wein vom Roten Hang e.V.

Meet at 3pm on the market square in Nierstein. No advance booking is required.
